The Gospel

The word Gospel means "Good News." But good news of what? It is the Good News of Jesus Christ.

The gospel involves:

  • Man's need for salvation
  • God's requirement for man's repentance from sin
  • Belief in the sacrifice of Jesus Christ, the Son of God
  • Willingness to ask for, and accept, the free gift of salvation.
Reduced to three sentences, the gospel is:
  1. For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23).
  2. But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. (Romans 5:8).
  3. For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. (Romans 10:13).
Just knowing these facts, though, is not enough. Forgiveness is available, but it's not automatic (Matthew 7:21), and it is impossible for God to allow sin into His presence. Therefore, we must admit that we are lost and helpless, turn from our sins, and personally reach out in faith to Christ and receive His offer of eternal life (John 3:16). In this way, we can partake of the heavenly life that God has prepared for those who belong to Him.

Would you like to truly make Jesus your Savior, your Substitutionary sacrifice? Would you like to receive this forgiveness by trusting in Jesus as your personal Savior and Lord?

Knowing a creed is no substitute for knowing Christ.
